Our experts will guide you along a 0.9-mile hike over rolling sand dunes where you will discover Pine Bush natural history and seasonal surprises and transformations. Suitable for ages 6+.

The evening will provide an introduction to FrogWatch, a community science program of the Akron Zoo.

Full Moon Hike at Kings Highway Barrens
Friday, March 14, 2025 | 6:00 pm
Enjoy the night under a full moon and experience some of the unique features of the Pine Bush after the sun goes down. We will meet at the Kings Highway Barrens trailhead (#9) and then hike the 1.2 mile Red Trail. This program is suitable for families.

Want to get into birding, but don’t know where to start? Come explore the Yellow Trail at Karner Barrens as we walk through the preserve and look for birds! Suitable for ages 11-17 with an adult.

This lecture will explore the reasons behind the high diversity of Lepidoptera in barrens habitats, highlight the species found in the preserve, and explain how these species are managed and monitored to both protect them and to learn how management decisions are affecting the preserve overall.
