Assessing the Status of Fisher (Pekania pennanti) in a Managed, Fragmented, Suburban Landscape in Albany, NY
Fisher (Pekania pennanti), once believed to only thrive in dense, remote coniferous and mixed forests away from human inhabited areas, populations are gradually expanding across New York State. These medium sized carnivores are being sighted in suburban landscapes including the Albany Pine Bush Preserve (APBP). University at Albany graduate student Daniel Winters will speak this evening about his research which aims to explore the status of the fisher population in the Albany area and how they utilize this unique habitat with the goal of better understanding whether these populations can persist in the APBP landscape.
