Want to learn more about the Albany Pine Bush and how the work of the Friends helps Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission? Interested in being a part of the Friends’ efforts to help protect this unique habitat, promote educational events, and participate in stewardship activities? Have a few hours per month to help? If so, the Friends need you!

At our monthly meetings, Friends Board members make decisions about how to best spend monies donated by other Friends or awarded from grants. We introduce programs, staff tables at events and do the behind-the-scenes work of finance, and educational activities.

The Board of Directors is an all-volunteer board tasked with the management of the Friends organization. They meet most months, usually on the first Tuesday, at 5:30pm. A Director’s role is an active, participatory experience.

In addition to the Board, there are opportunities to take part in one or more committees. They include the Social Committee, the Community Engagement Committee, and the Fundraising Committee. Friends also sponsor a Monthly Science Lecture and volunteer every other month at the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York sorting and boxing donated food.  Friends participate in outreach events such as the Lupine Festival,  Night at the Discovery Center and at other events.

Since the formation of the Friends of the Pine Bush Community as a non-profit organization in 2005, we have found that people with different backgrounds and experiences make valuable contributions to the Board of Directors or its committees.
