Land in the Albany Pine Bush was first protected for its unique ecological and geological features in 1973 when the NYSDEC purchased 450+ acres that became known as the Pine Bush Unique Area. Later, this land was dedicated to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and is now managed by the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission. The Commission was established in 1988 by the New York State Legislature.
