INACREMA CODOWKCO

Answer: AMERICAN WOODCOCK

The American Woodcock is a shorebird that lives in the fields and forests of the eastern half of the United States. They probe the soil with long bills and consume earthworms and other invertebrates. American Woodcocks overwinter in the southeast and return to the northeast in early spring. During the breeding season, males perform a unique aerial display for the female. The male starts with a peenting sound, made on the ground with tail splayed. Then he flies 100 feet into the air making twittering sounds, and then steeply dives back to the ground making yet another sound. The male repeats this display over and over again as daylight fades into night.
