The gray fox is the only American member of the dog family that can climb trees. It is smaller than a red fox and has salt and pepper gray fur. A stripe of black hair runs along the middle of its tail. Gray fox are nocturnal and are omnivores eating a variety of meat, vegetation, and insects. You will find them living in wooded and brushy areas.
