Suitable for all ages
Learn how to fish with the NYS DEC, Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, City of Albany and Albany County. Participants can learn how to cast a rod and catch fish, as well as fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics, aquatic ecology, and more! All equipment is provided free of charge. No prior experience or license needed. Raindate: Sunday May 31, 2026.
Six Mile Waterworks is located in the City of Albany and the easternmost region of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve just off Fuller Road, about 0.2 miles north of I-90.
During these clinics no freshwater fishing license or enrollment in the recreational marine fishing registry is required*, but all other statewide freshwater fishing regulations and saltwater fishing regulations remain in effect (*Kids under 16 can always fish for free!).
Trailhead #3 Six Mile Waterworks
Directions from Discovery Center to Rensselaer Lake (Six-Mile Waterworks) on Fuller Road (Trailhead 3). At traffic light in front of Discovery Center building, turn left onto Route 155. Proceed 0.5 miles to the next traffic light. Turn left onto Washington Avenue Extension. Proceed on Washington Ave. Extension for 2.3 miles to the Fuller Road exit. Take the ramp. At the traffic circle, take the 3rd exit onto Fuller Road. Travel approximately 0.1 miles to a second traffic circle. Rensselaer Lake Preserve and Park Entrance (Six-Mile Park) is the 3rd exit off the traffic circle.
