Volunteer Training Workshop hosted by the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Cornell University
On rainy nights in late winter and early spring, many salamanders and frogs travel long distances from their forest habitat to breed in small wetlands called vernal pools. When their migration pathways cross roads, mortality risk in high.
You can help! The NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Cornell University work together to assist Hudson Valley communities with conservation planning to conserve important forests and wetlands, and the wildlife that use these critical habitats. You can help by participating in the Amphibian Migrations and Road Crossings (AM&RC) Project. AM&RC volunteers survey roads in late winter and early spring to document the annual migrations and assist amphibians safely across roads.
