April 2023 Volunteer of the month
April 05, 2023
The April 2023 Volunteer of the Month is Kathie Paul.
By Beth MacCallum, Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator
Kathie joined the preserve volunteer ranks as a docent in 2022.
Originally from downstate New York she attended SUNY ESF and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in forest biology and a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University in secondary education. She eventually went on to earn a degree in Chemistry and recently retired after a successful career as a research and development chemist. She now fills her days gardening, enjoying hikes in the Adirondacks, caring for her first grandchild, and of course volunteering at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve.
Kathie’s favorite part of the Pine Bush is working with all the wonderful staff and volunteers. She loves learning about the ecology of the Pine Bush. Kathie especially loves welcoming the children and families that come to visit the Discovery Center. Her favorite Discovery Center animal is the musk turtle, who she makes sure to come say hi to every shift that Kathie works.
Kathie was nominated for April 2023 volunteer of the month by Vicki Stoodley, the Discovery Center Visitor Services Specialist. Vicki appreciates “all of the enthusiasm that Kathie reserves for visitors, and all the excellent help she provides in the gift shop.”
