Suitable for adults

This training: Join us to learn what butterflies can be found in the APBP & how you can participate in the 2025 National Butterfly Count at Albany Pine Bush Preserve. Three of the main goals of NABA’s Butterfly Count Program are to: gather data that will monitor butterfly populations, give butterfliers a chance to socialize and have fun, and raise public awareness by hosting events that will increase general interest in butterflies. Training will focus on the butterfly species we may see during the count.  Tools used on the day of the count will be binoculars, a phone or camera to take photos of the butterflies, and a note pad and pen/pencil to record the species you see.

The Survey: Volunteers will spend a day working together with a leader (8am-2pm July 4, 2025-weather dependent), to document & record butterflies in the preserve.  We will survey as a group at both the Karner Barrens Trailhead – in the Discovery Center field and on the Blue Trail heading toward the overlook as well as at the Blueberry Hill West, trail. Travel in your own vehicle will be required during the survey.

All volunteers are required to complete volunteer forms prior to volunteering with the preserve. These forms can be completed online, and information will be provided upon your registration.
