Introduction to Identifying Dragonflies and Damselflies

This program is suitable for adults.
Join Erin White, Zoologist with the New York Natural Heritage Program and coordinator of the NY Dragonfly and Damselfly Survey from 2005-2010 for an introduction to identifying dragonflies and damselflies in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. We will begin in the classroom, covering dragonfly and damselfly natural history, anatomy and identifying features. We will then head out into the field to search for dragonflies and damselflies in the Pine Bush Preserve and learn how to use aerial nets to safely capture and examine individuals. In the event of rain, we will stay indoors and examine specimens. We hope you can join us for this up-close look at some of the Pine Bush’s most fascinating insects. This program will meet inside the Discovery Center.

Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center
From I-87 take exit 2W (Rt 5 West, Central Avenue). Follow Rt 5 for about 2 miles then turn left onto Rt 155 (New Karner Rd). Continue on Rt 155 for about 1.2 miles. The Discovery Center is located on the left at 195 New Karner Road. (518)456-0655
