Here’s a chance to add some unique and fun-tastic spice to your holiday activities. The Junkman will offer two interactive workshops in which music and music-making simultaneously integrate with messages about environmental stewardship.

World renown composer/performer/environmentalist The Junkman™ (Donald Knaack) has relocated to the Capitol region after living and working the past five years in the UK on a Tier One Exceptional Talent Visa. Prior to that, Knaack and his wife, author Amy Patricia Meade, lived in Manchester, VT. Knaack often performed in the Albany area, including First Night, The Egg, Albany Pine Bush Preserve, performances with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, multiple Albany Tulip Festivals, and in many local schools.
The Junkman™ will offer two interactive family workshops at 11am and 1pm on Friday, December 30 at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, 195 New Karner Road. All children and parents are invited to grab a provided reused material, a pair of sticks and jam out with The Junkman.
The two HOP interactive workshops integrate music and music-making with messages about social responsibility and environmental stewardship in order to help families become better environmental citizens. The Junkman’s HOP (Help Our Planet) Environmental Education Initiative has garnered awards of excellence from the United Nations, the Federal Republic of Mexico, and the Governor of Vermont.
On his return to Albany Pine Bush, The Junkman says: “Its a real treat for me to return to Albany Pine Bush. Its such a special place, and its sitting right here, close to where we all live…to stand on sand that once was the floor of a huge glacial lake some 15,000 years ago is a phenomenal feeling that everyone should experience.”
The Junkman will include some facts about the Pine Bush Preserve in his workshops.
The Junkman™ has performed at the United Nations, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Sundance Film Festival, COP Conference on Climate Change, and toured with Phish, Eminem, and the Black Eyed Peas. He’s has composed critically acclaimed dance compositions for Twyla Tharp, the American Ballet Theatre, American Dance Festival, and others.
