Stop by the Albany Pine Bush Preserve to interview preserve staff and wildland fire scientists and managers from Maine to Minnesota who are gathering in Albany for the NE-MW Prescribed Fire Science and Management Workshop. The workshop is designed to build community and capacity for prescribed fire as part of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy; a federal strategy to preemptively address the increasing risk of wildfire resulting from our rapidly changing climate.
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is a microcosm of 21st Century conservation and a national leader in the effective use of prescribed fire to reduce wildfire risk and conserve endangered species and rare ecological communities. From planning and implementation to policy, permits, funding, training and community engagement, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission’s 33-year history with every aspect of prescribed fire has created a valuable laboratory for learning about building community and capacity for prescribed fire in an urban landscape.
On Wednesday, August 21st, more than 200 conference participants will visit the preserve to observe and discuss the Commission’s wildland fire management program.
